Jokkmokk
Jokkmokks kommun is located on the Arctic Circle. It is the second largest municipality in Sweden.
In Jokkmokk you can get experience of different adventures and the great calm. Contrasts here are large. Consider by yourself: in summer we have midnight sun. That means that the sun never sets below the horizon. Another natural phenomenon, that we have fortunate to experience, is the Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis. Some winter nights green glow across the sky is dancing and it is unforgettable every time when you see that. You can get all this in our beautiful area to the north of the Arctic Circle and this experience will stay in your memory forever.
If you are interested by outdoor activities, you should not miss our magnificent mountains area. There are four national parks here: Sarek, Padjelanta, Stora Sjöfallet, which together with Muddus, located in the woodlands, are named the World Heritage Laponia.
Jokkmokk is known like a central place of Sami. To learn more about the Sami culture and see Sami handicraft, you can for example visit Ájtte Swedish Mountain and Sami Museum, Sami Duodji, Sami Education centre, and other art and craft shops.
Jokkmokk Winter Market, which always starts the first Thursday in February and runs for three days, is Northern Europe's largest winter festival and a meeting place for visitors from near and far. During Winter Market you can find unique Sami handicrafts here, see different exhibitions and visit lots of exciting events. So, take the opportunity to participate in this historic market festival which continues every year during more than 400 years.
