Jokkmokk Winter Market - the biggest festival of northern Europe!

The Wintermarket in Jokkmokk - Northern Europe's largest winter festival, a meeting place for visitors from near and far. Here we are treated to the Sami handicrafts, crafts, exhibitions and lots of exciting events. So take the opportunity to participate in this historic market festival held each year in more than 400 years.

Jokkmokk market always starts the first Thursday in February and lasts for three days. In those days, the population numbers in the small community growing tenfold. As early as the sixteenth century, Jokkmokk was the center of "patch of land trade." Here the Sami people sold leather, handicrafts and reindeer while they bought salt, flour, coffee and tobacco.

Today the market consists a huge and wide selection of everything. Here you can buy and taste the elk and reindeer meat, Sami bread, smoked trout and jams of Lapland / Norrbotten, berries. Find beautiful and unique Sami crafts that will interest different age groups and tastes.

There are plenty of acticities to do during the market such as dog sledding, snowmobile or helicopter, and of course the reindeer race on the lake Talvatis.
