Stage 1 of the Arctic Circle March 2009 starts in the middle of the light summer night at Rantajärvi on June 14, 00:00:01, (the night between Saturday and Sunday). The first stage is 33 kilometres long and will be finished at the Finnish border in the morning hours.

Stage 2: Next day, Monday June 15, the march will continue southwards at 06.00 hrs Swedish time. Stage 2 is 31 kilometres long and is ended at the Arctic Circle/Napapiiri.

Stage 3: There are 30 hours between every start. Consequently stage 3 will start from the Arctic Circle at 12.00 Swedish time on Tuesday June 16. The finish of the stage is Kuivakangas at Matarengi (the central place of Övertorneå local authorities) after the border once again has been crossed. This third stage is 35 kilometres long and the competitors pass just below the famous midnight sun mountain Aavasaksa before passing the bridge (the border) to Sweden.

Stage 4: The last stage is the longest, 41 kilometres, and starts northwards at 18.00 hrs Swedish time on Wednesday June 17. When Wednesday evening changes to Thursday night the midnight sun stays over the horizon and escorts the brave competitors towards the finish at Rantajärvi (latest on Thursday 18. at 06 a´clock) Not less than 140 kilometres lay under the feet of the competitors.

There are refreshment stands every 5 - 7 km. All of them offer warm and cold drinks, and some also offer solid nourishments as bananas, cucumber, tomatoes etc. All this is included in the starting fee.

Four stages devided into five days and nights are covered. The Arctic Circle March is fullfilled!

The whole march goes on the main road with a permanent surface.
