Hietaniemi Church
This beautiful wooden church was built in 1747 at the market place on Hietaniemi church promontory. The church is famous for the Russian Bell, which Russian troops stole from the church during Swedens Great Power era, and which Russia returned to Hietaniemi Church in 1885.
The church organ was originally built in 1609 by Paulus Müller. In 1780 the organ was bought to Övertorneå church for 250 Swedish crowns from the German Church in Stockholm. The organ was to big for the church in Övertorneå so they decided to split it between the churches in Övertorneå and Hietaniemi. You can visit the church in Övertorneå to see the other part of this organ.
The organ is the oldest still playable organ in Sweden.
