“Autumn in Sápmi” is a unique, new experience! Sápmi Nature will take you to their favourite places in Laponia World Heritage Area and you will get an authentic experience of what Sápmi is all about.

Culture, people and nature are parts of the same holistic foundation for the indigenous Sámi people. On this trip, Sámi guides will introduce you to the culture and food and you will experience the natural wonders of Laponia. Bring your camera, as you will visit Sápmi Natures favourite places in this part of the world – you might want to share some photos with family and friends back home! Autumn is one of the best seasons in the Arctic – although Sámi people have eight seasons to choose from, this is a favourite of theirs! Sámi culture, autumn colours and northern lights will give you a vivid and genuine experience of the life environment here in the north.

Day 1

Luleå Airport – Aurora Safari Camp

Arrival in Luleå where your guide will meet you. The stay will be at Aurora Safari Camp in the Råne River Valley. Tour briefing and a Sámi introduction will give you a good start on your stay here in the North. Accommodation in comfortable lavvu double rooms and you will have your first dinner together in the lavvu lounge at the camp. (Drive 1 hour, Dinner, lavvu double room)

Day 2

Aurora Safari Camp – Suolávrre, hike to Muttosluoppal

After a nice breakfast, your journey will continue into the unique world heritage – Laponia. Laponia is a world heritage thanks to the combination of culture and nature and this is the home of your Sámi guides on the trip. You will start your hike through Muttos National Park – this is the land of ancient forests and vast wetlands. You will hike on small, natural trails along dry forest ridges and cross marshes and small rivers in this ferry tail landscape, one of the most quiet places in Sweden. Your hike today is about 12 – 14 km. Upon arrival to a cabin you will prepare a nice meal. This cabin has 9 beds (bunkbeds) and it’s open to the public so it’s not possible to book it exclusively for private groups. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Drive 1,5 hour, hike 12 km, public cabin)

Day 3

Muttosluoppal – Skájdde

Your day will start very early for those who are up to an adventure in the morning… You will go out in the dark and go to an observation tower a few hundred meters from our cabin with a fantastic view over Muttos. You will watch the sunrise from the tower – if you are lucky with the weather, this will be a sunrise to remember! Back in the cabin again, you will eat breakfast and pack your gear for the hike. Your hike will go towards Muddosagahtjaldak where you will eat lunch close to the waterfall where the water in the Muttos river falls 42 meters down to the Gähppogårsså canyon. You will hike along the canyon, to Skájdde where you will pitch your tents on a beautiful camp site along the Lule River. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Hike 16 km. Tents double room)

Day 4

Skájdde – Stora Sjöfallet

After breakfast, you will go back to the minivan and start your drive towards Stora Sjöfallet. Upon arrival in Stora Sjöfallet you will visit the beautiful Laponia Visitor Center. Lunch will be served at the hotel and the afternoon is free. Take a short hike through the forest in the national park, try some fishing, rent a canoe, photograph or just relax with a nice book. Your guide will be around for those who would like to go out on a hike. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a 3 course dinner at the restaurant. After dinner, your guide will give a presentation “This is my Sápmi – eight seasons in Laponia”. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Drive 2 hours, optional hike)

Day 5

Stora Sjöfallet – Luleå

Early breakfast on the go and you’ll go for a morning hike in the area. Back at the hotel it’s time for a refreshing shower and then some packing. You’ll serve a hearty brunch before departure towards the coast again, arrival at the Luleå airport not later than 15.30. (Brunch, drive 4 hours)

This itinerary can be changed due to circumstances out of our control (weather etc). But Sápmi Natures promise is always to share a genuine Sámi experience in the Laponia area.
