A unique and magical way of exploring Lulea’s frozen archipelago is on board a hovercraft.
No where else in Swedish Lapland is this experience available! The tour will include a journey across the ice-covered Archipelago with the goal to reach the pack ice fields of the outer archipelago. You meet the guide and get a briefing of the tour and the archipelago over a cup of warm beverage and you get into the hovercraft. The exact way out depends on the ice-conditions, but the main goal for the tour is the pack ice fields of the outer archipelago. Here the wind pushes the ice together into piles of broken ice – icebergs. The scenario differs from week to week, but sometimes the Archipelago has more than 10 meter high walls of ice.

By the Island of Brändöskär you step out to take a walk on the ice and have a look into the old Chapel on the Island. Here, on the Island, you are also served a light meal with warm beverage to enjoy. There is free time to walk on the ice and if you are lucky there is the chance to spot a seal or sea eagles.
This 2,5-hour activity is available from the end of December – beginning of April. Snowmobile suit, boots, socks, warm gloves, fleece suit and helmet are provided by the tour operator.
