In 2018, Hanna Öberg made a sensational breakthrough when she stunningly won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang.
Today, the biathlon star from Svensbyn, Piteå, is regarded as Sweden’s greatest female biathlete of all time.
Although Hanna Öberg has achieved great success in the World Cup, it is especially as a championship competitor that she has made her name.
Biathlon is a sport of fine margins, high heart rates, and nerves on edge – yet Hanna truly excels when the stakes are highest. Since her breakthrough, championship medals have poured in: two Olympic golds, one Olympic silver, three World Championship golds, four silvers, and six bronzes.
In terms of total championship medals, the Arctic-born athlete is already Sweden’s most decorated female biathlete ever.
For her achievements, Hanna Öberg has been recognized with numerous awards, including Svenska Dagbladet’s Bragdguld, the Viktoria Award, and Radiosporten’s Jerring Prize, voted for by the Swedish public each year.
…Hanna’s younger sister, Elvira Öberg, is also a top-level biathlete. The sisters compete against each other on the tracks but also form an extremely strong core of Sweden’s relay team. Hanna is in a relationship with Martin Ponsiluoma, another successful member of the national biathlon team.
