Nikkaluokta-Kebnekaise
Nikkaluokta is located only 66 km from Kiruna. You can easily go there by either car or bus. From Nikkaluokta you then walk an easy 19 km to Kebnekaise mountain station. To simplify the walk you can after 5,6 km exchange 6 km of the walk against a 30 minute boat trip over the lake Ladtjojaure. After that an 8 km inclined walk remains before reaching the mountain station.
There are accommodation possibilities in both Nikkaluokta Touriststation (Nikkaluokta Sarri AB) and on Kebnekaise Mountain station. In Nikkaluokta you can stay in 4-bed cabins, and you can also camp there. On Kebnekaise Mountain station you can stay in 2-6 bed-rooms with or without housekeeping. You can also put up your tent there.
Before walking up towards Kebnekaise Mountain station you can take part in a various number of activities in Nikkaluokta e.g. Sami Tours, boat trips and riding on Icelandic horses. You can book guided canoe tours with Lappland Inspiration AB.
For those who wish it is possible to go to the mountain station by helicopter. Scheduled traffic from the end of June until the mountain station closes in mid September. You can also make other tours by helicopter e.g. over the Kebnekaise mountains. When arriving at the Kebnekaise mountain station you can participate in guided day tours and different courses.
The walk between Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise mountain station does not require a detailed map, however for further walking either towards Abisko or down south, the maps BD 6 and BD 8 are recommendable. If walking in the surroundings of Kebnekaise the "Kebnekaise högfjällskarta" is very useful.
There is also a possibility to go to Nikkaluokta by taxi with Taxi Kiruna.
