The camping experience

The best thing about camping is having control over your own time – and spending that time with your loved ones. And in northern Sweden, there's plenty of time to go around. The never-ending daylight holds countless adventures, midnight swims, and quiet conversations by the campfire lasting into the early hours. Discover adventures from mountains to coast, entirely at your own pace.

There’s a campsite in almost every village in Swedish Lapland. And if not, you’ll likely find a cabin to rent or a spot to park your camper.

Camp your way. Urban oases or your own little island. RV, caravan, tent or cabin – whatever your style. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape or an active holiday, there are plenty of great places to pitch your camp for a few days. Why not camp near the ski slopes in late spring? Set up by the sea in summer? Or find a hidden spot and watch for the northern lights as autumn rolls in? Check out the full map of campsites in Swedish Lapland.

Summer (June–August) is the most popular season, offering midnight sun and mild temperatures. Spring and autumn bring fewer visitors and beautiful natural colors. Winter camping is also possible – but requires more gear and preparation.

Do I need to book campsites in advance?

It depends on the season and location. During high season, it’s a good idea to book in advance, especially at popular campgrounds.

Kan jag fricampa i Norrbotten?

Be a responsible camper – always check the rules before wild camping. Parking a motorhome, caravan or rooftop tent is not covered by Sweden’s Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten). For detailed guidelines, visit the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket). If you’re travelling with a tent, your possibilities are nearly endless. Thanks to Allemansrätten, you’re allowed to head into nature and pitch your tent almost anywhere, as long as you respect the land and follow the rules.

In Sweden, we love our coffee, and so-called boiled coffee (coarse ground and brought to the boil in a pan) is in many ways the national drink of Swedish Lapland. Preferably served with all the trimmings: coffee cheese, coffee meat, dried reindeer meat and reindeer tongue.
